Welcome to the set of the shooting of DANSOMATION, the short mAPs italian fim produced by @coorpi !
Set in an overnight suburbia of Turin, the short film DANSOMATON takes its moves from a game based on fights between live remote-controlled human like androids. Each won challenge, allows players to customize their DANSOMATON either physically or by purchasing upgrade cards that install such as counsciuosness and emotions simulators to a proper vocabulary speech . Richi is a 25 years old beginner player, a boy distressed by his loneliness, who sees in DANSOMATONs and their upgrades the possibility to build finally a relationship, even if not fully human. The meeting with Dedra, a long-winded player, passionate to the limit of obsession, is for Richi the opportunity to win the last missing points to be able to buy the word card to his DANSOMATON, Prisma. RIchi is ready to set off with his new empowered android friend, but PRISMA seems not be of the same advice.
A great synergy between the guys in the cast: Andrea Madaro @cattivissimo_mad, leading actor and Vittoria Bonioli @vittoriabonioli_, co-starring actress, with Tiziano Pilloni @tizianopilloniand Lele Mazzella @lelemazzella. In a world where we are already confronting critical interconnected challenges, we need art that is less about individualism and more about collaborative practices that foster community care and participation, collective consciousness and action-taking. For mAPs, artistic tools can be powerful ways of exploring and developing social and cultural identity. During the last months, while the society was re-opening its engines, we met again in the physical space with the people. We were touched, we shared our stories, we moved together, we envisioned the future. Our stories, our power. We keep on rolling!

Margot Libanga
Dancer – Spotlight
mAPs French team is delighted to welcome the dancer Margot Libanga to play the role of YAA in the short dance film EMERSION.
As a movement artist, choreographer and co-artistic director of Compagnie Shafak, Margot performes with various companies such as La Baraka in France and the FMKF030 collective in Germany. Versatile, she is interested in various forms of performing arts, such as contemporary and classical theatre, gospel singing, as well as hiphop and jazz dance. Trained in contemporary dance between France and Germany, she has since worked for choreographers at the extremes of the genre. Margot’s universe is blossoming in the contrast of rhythms, mysticism and the multidirectional address of the body. She questions the bodies as a common part of the individuals, as a playground to express her singularity.

Workshop Screendance
The Kinitiras Ω team started in 2014 with the idea that senior citizens should have access to dance and theater through a creative community, where they can activate body and soul and unfold their rich artistic voice. Through weekly meetings, the group members started with gentle physical exercise, inspired by modern dance and physical theater, followed by vocal practice and yoga to learn bodycare through exercise and reflexology. The purpose of this mAPs screendance workshop, hosted by M∅Z @chrysanthibadeka, was to soften their daily lives amidst pandemic, since elderly people live in a multi-faceted precarity. In this way the social benefit of the arts directly affects the daily life of their community.

Empowerment
Last year, when live performance was out of the question, many dance artists were turning to screendance to convey their art and keep themselves active. Their practice of filming the movement and the improvement of their techniques made different artistic disciplines fuse to develop and to enhance content and visual storytelling.
mAPs project hosted free online courses for professional dancers, choreographers and professional dance students. @chrysanthibadeka, from M∅Z greek team, used zoom platform to empower the dance community and inspired them to stay creative in the pandemic era. She shared best practices on dance film making, focusing on basic cinematic principles and how you can apply them in motion, choreographic tips for composing for the camera, and dynamic editing.

How to create a sustainable art production
When we started the mAPs project, we aimed to create a cultural activism and a sustainable and social practice in dance and film by mobilizing different expert knowledge (amateurs, professionals) from various disciplines (dance and film) and areas (art, science, politics). In a context of growing global extremism, rising populism and authoritarian structures, mAPs shows visions of a solidary life and work of citizens in Europe: democratic, sustainable and innovative.

Artist – Spotlight
Today we introduce you Tero Peltoniemi, the director of “Circology”, the dance film from mAPs collection, produced by Malakta.
As a finish filmaker and director of Cinema Bijou, he believes that the language of cinema consists of motion and rythm. He holds dance film to a high regard because it has potential to integrate these elements most organically and he strives to share sensations to the viewer through their use. He works to trick audiences into thinking and acting. He has studied both filmmaking and acting to ready himself for the dance between a camera and a performer that is cinema. His latest dance film Mudlove (2019) is a mudwrestling dance that reveal uniting hearts and coliding bodies. Marrying music and motion with a twist of social commentary has been his main focus and trademark.
